How ratings work

Ratings use the Elo system. You gain points for a win and lose points for a loss; beating a stronger player gives more points. Your first 20 ranked games count double so new players find their level quickly. A draw moves both ratings toward each other. Only ranked games count, and they need a Google sign-in.

Checkers games end when a player cannot move (no pieces left or every piece blocked), by resignation or by running out of time. Capturing is mandatory. Threefold repetition, the no-progress rule, the 400-move limit and agreement are draws. American checkers: a draw after 40 moves each without a capture or man move. Brazilian draughts (Portuguese pages): the capture that takes the most pieces is mandatory, and a draw follows after 20 moves each with only kings moving and no capture. Every game uses 5 minutes plus 3 × 30 seconds.
