Ratings use the Elo system. You gain points for a win and lose points for a loss; beating a stronger player gives more points. Your first 20 ranked games count double so new players find their level quickly. A draw moves both ratings toward each other. Only ranked games count, and they need a Google sign-in.
Go 9×9 games end when both players pass in a row: the server counts each side's stones plus the empty points it alone surrounds (area scoring), removing only clearly dead stones. White adds 7 points komi, and equal totals are a draw (jigo). Games also end by resignation, running out of time (30 seconds per move, a pass included), a draw by agreement, or a count after 300 moves.
